Characteristics

• Adults are about the size of a large cat
• Omnivores that will eat almost anything that they come across
• As a marsupial they carry their young in a pouch

The opossum is the only marsupial in North America and is related to the kangaroo. These pests are often found in basement and attics trying to nest. They also are frequently seen when they enter trash cans in search of food. Opossums are known for their habit of “playing dead” and mimic the appearance and smell of a dead animal. Your home should be adequately sealed to prevent these animals from entering, and trash cans can should be secured and sealed.
